Bio-Sustainability and Resource Recovery – Foundations for a Sustainable Environment
The Middle Eastern region has experienced substantial growth over the past five years, resulting in the creation of new residential, commercial and industrial communities that have attracted global enterprise and social development. This rapid growth has created environmental and socio-economic challenges that need to be actively managed and harnessed. Bio-Sustainability and Resource Recovery are key foundations on the basis of which governments and the private sector can respond to the exponentially growing requirement for treatment and management of solid and liquid wastes. This presentation will cover the business and technological solutions to harness significant opportunities arising from effluent reduction and recovery of valuable resources from domestic and
industrial wastes.

Waste Management in Yemen: Experiences, Risks and Chances
Waste management process in Yemen is reflected through a good legislative and institutional package (e .V. National Strategy for Hazards Waste Management, National Strategy of Solid Waste Management, de-central Cleaning Founds…) and also by some private but still primitive investment in very limited cities, which provides a good and various chances to investment and development…on different levels. It is an institutional Issue but also economic investment, academic and training program as well as a case of local and international commitment. This presentation will also cover investment opportunities of waste management in various fields.

Where is the Carbon? Understanding and Measuring the Embodied Carbon Impact in the Design and Construction of
Buildings.
Large building companies recognize that climate change has become a top public policy issue in the developed world.
Regulators in all regions are moving
toward tougher standards for real estate development projects, and are requiring builders to understand and account for embodied carbon emissions and other environmental impacts in a more holistic manner. dcarbon8 will present some of the world’s first analyses using detailed supplier specific data enabling them to recommend absolute opportunities for improvement in the design and construction processes. Case studies will also be presented to demonstrate the benefits seen by businesses and for the industry as a whole.

Case study: Utilisation of Waste Oil Stored in Open Pond During 2nd World War By Bapco Refinery in a Cement Plant in UAE During Gulf War. “Options of Using Waste as Alternate Fuel in
Cement Industry” Necessity is mother of
invention and innovation key to survival. conditions by gulf war a cement factory UAE was forced to use oil from Bahrain open ponds stored for 45 years as fuel and how 300000 tons of oil used avoiding a big Environmental impact.

Arabian Peninsula is the highest producer of waste per capita. Waste disposal is a big problem in cement industry as use of waste as alternate fuel for
cement burning and options. With massive construction and increased waste generation per capita highest with no alternatives to dispose waste, cement industry can use all waste as alternate fuel. There is a need for synergy partnership between cement industry, municipalities and waste collecting companies, NGOs like FEA , and cement producers to use waste as
alternate fuel and solve a big issue affecting quality of life and reducing environmental impact

Case Study : Innovative waste management through Industrial Symbiosis
The Symbiosis Concept:
One company’s by-product becomes an important resource to one or several of the other companies in the Industrial Symbiosis network. The outcome is reduced consumption of resources and a significant reduction in environmental strain. Cooperation generates better
results and makes it possible for each enterprise to increase production without necessarily to increase the use of energy, water and new raw materials. The basis of the Industrial Symbiosis cooperation in Kalundborg is openness, communication and mutual trust between the partners. The Symbiosis Institute assists and facilitates the companies identifying new activities improving the environmental
performance.
